After making some runs with Monsters of Folk and She & Him, M. Ward has decided that he wants to get back to writing for himself. His last solo album, Hold Time, was released in 2009 so it’s been a good while since we’ve heard any new solo M. Ward material. Along with writing a new album, starting tonight he will be playing three nights at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon and then head to Europe to play shows with Bright Eyes.

He’s going to be recording the solo work at home in Portland. While talking to HitFix he stated, “I’m going back to what it was when I first started, performing, writing and recording by myself. Since then, I’ve been getting some great invitations to play with other people, following this path. It’s a luxury to not have to just be performing with other people to have my music heard… I have a giant backlog of songs that… I really haven’t had time to revisit or improve upon. It’s time to finish writing those songs.”
