Young the Giant covers Gorillaz’s “Empire Ants”

Young the Giant recently went to NY to film an episode for MTV’s Unplugged and included a cover of the Gorillaz’s song “Empire Ants”.If you’re already familiar with Young the Giant, you’ll know that Sameer Gadhia has a voice that can pretty much span any range and this is no exception. By taking on the vocal parts of 2D (Damon Albarn) and Yukimi Nagano (Little Dragon) he successfully pulls off one of the greatest Gorillaz covers I have heard to date. The rest of the gang kills it as well, and there’s a special guest on the stage with them, Jason Burger. Jason used to drum for Young the Giant when they were known as the Jakes, and is a close friend. Him and François Comtois double up on drumming to create a groove-intensified version of the song. Bassist, Payam Doostzadeh, hops on the piano for the first half of the song and rocks it before hopping back to bass. Jacob Tilley and Eric Cannata do what they do on guitar, and do it amazingly. Jake laid down the synth parts on his guitar with some pedals and it sounds perfect.
